Description: The coolest jobs on this planet… or any other… are with Lockheed Martin Space.
At the dawn of a new space age, Lockheed Martin is a pioneer, partner, innovator and builder. Our amazing people are on a mission to make a difference in the world and every single day we use our unique skills and experiences to create, design and build solutions to some of the world’s hardest engineering problems. Do you want to be part of a culture that inspires employees to think big, perform with excellence and build incredible products? We provide the resources, inspiration and focus - if you have the passion and courage to dream big, then we want to build a better tomorrow with you.
The Advanced Technology Center (ATC) is the research lab for Lockheed Martin Space. Through our own skills and those of our partners—including universities and research labs around the world—we’re able to put vision in motion. While we are a part of LM's space division, our technologies are far-reaching across domains. Napkin sketches of lasers that can shoot down UAVs—we made it real. Changing molecules so metals behave differently? We invented that. ATC’s story is written in the success of missions here on Earth and far, far into space. Our innovation extends beyond incremental change. We strive for first-of-a-kind capability with enduring impact. Whatever the application, our charter is to create game-changing technologies. At the ATC, we’re inspiring change in our endless pursuit of what’s next.
The ATC is seeking a Staff Hardware/Software Interface Engineer with expertise in electronics and instrumentation familiar with all aspects of data acquisition, control systems, and automation using, for example National Instruments LabVIEW. You should have experience in the design and modeling, characterization and optimization of laser and opto-electronic system control software and hardware using custom electronics, COTS equipment and applications such as LabVIEW. We will look for you to work with systems engineering, laser and optical systems scientists and other disciplines to define control and operational requirements. You should have experience designing custom chassis such as house laser pump diode drivers, waveform timing, monitoring and other control electronics. Ideally, you will have experience designing and coding custom instrument control graphical user interfaces (GUI’s) that allow laser users to control and monitor the laser operation during environmental and qualification testing. Additional knowledge of related laser-based remote sensing technologies is desired, including coherent and direct detection laser radar, radiometry, Fourier/wave optics, beam propagation, and/or atmospheric sciences.
Some of your responsibilities in this role will include the following:
• Design of real-time control and data acquisition for passive optical systems, lasers and nonlinear optical systems and devices
• Evaluation and prediction of custom optical control systems performance through computational modeling and analysis
• Laboratory testing and experimental demonstration
• Prototype development
• System analysis and integration
• Field demonstration
• Contribution to summary reports, oral presentations, and/or technical proposals is expected.
We are looking for someone with excellent written/presentation/oral communication skills to communicate with diverse audiences.
You would typically have a Bachelors degree and 9-15 years of professional experience, a Masters and 7-13 years, or a PhD and 4-10 years.
Here are some of the benefits you can enjoy:
• Medical
• Dental
• 401k
• Paid time off
• Work/life balance
• Career development
• Mentorship opportunities
