Position Summary

Drive engineering of the best fitting and most comfortable athletic performance footwear throughout the development cycle. Focus on the development and implementation of footwear standards, best practices, and advanced technical solutions. Deliver the technical services required to meet UA’s strategic footwear goals in sustainability, consumer satisfaction, fit & comfort, innovation, reduced lead time, and cost reduction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities


Act as category engineering resource from ideation to commercialization
Identify and assist in alleviating potential manufacturing, quality, and product performance issues
Provide suggestions to improve efficiency for better costing
Document product issues and solutions at each stage of the development process
Ensure patters and upper constructions follow category best practices and engineering standards
Ensure all bottoms and tools are built to category best practices and engineering standards
Review and confirm all 2D and 3D tool files prior to mold opening
Work with field testing and development to ensure great fit and comfort. Create action plans to address fit issues.
Develop and improve category best practices
Ensure all styles follow manufacturing and category best practice standards
Work closely and communicate often with other engineers to obtain consistency in technical development and production across respective categories
Communicate and collaborate with the Asia engineering team on best practices and standards
Collaborate with cross-functional teammates to test new ideas, benchmark against competitor products, and proactively voice recommendations
Wok closely with the material team to update and manage footwear engineering materials
Maintain category last data
Work with innovation partners to implement and refine new innovation platform best practices


Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)


General knowledge of footwear constructions, last, material construction and properties, upper, bottoms, mold making and costing
Knowledge of product development and/or manufacturing
The ability to define problems, collect data, and draw rational conclusions and recommend solutions
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to correspond with teams from a variety of countries and cultures
A desire to continuously deepen knowledge and experience of footwear engineering
Strong understanding of the process and organization skills
Passion for sports and footwear
Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team, prioritizing and executing multiple projects simultaneously
Strong team player
Current computer hardware and software proficiency


Education And / Or Experience


B.A. Engineering/Related field
1-3 years of technical footwear experience


Other Requirements


Location: This individual must reside within commuting distance from our global headquarters in Baltimore, MD.
Return To Work Designation: 3 days a week in-office, the remainder of work week remote.
Travel: 10% of the year
Program experience: Microsoft Excel, Adobe Suite, Rhino and related 3D software a plus
