Summary:
Subject Matter Expert under limited supervision will provide electrical maintenance and technical support to the customer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Troubleshoots, disassembles, repairs, assembles, and tests automatic bus transfer (ABT) devices; collecting, holding and transfer (CHT) system motors, controllers, and associated control circuits; deck machinery equipment motors and controllers; navigation equipment; aircraft electrical servicing system (AESS) 28 VDC battery chargers, propulsion motors, controllers, and associated control circuits; steering motors, controllers, and associated control circuits; ballast control systems; damage control systems; AFFF system motors, SOPVs, controllers, and associated circuits; switchboards, power panels and circuit breakers; generators; alternating current (A/C) motors, direct current (D/C) motors, slip rings, and brush riggings; lighting circuits; and assistance with identification of cables and wire sizes. Uses technical documents (FWPs, CWPs, MPs, JFMM, Instructions, NSTM's, Military standards, Test memos, Test Standards, Drawings and Technical Manuals) to accomplish work.
Conducts cableway inspections.
Tests electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
Inspects electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
Prepares sketches or follows blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
Conducts research and provides drawings, technical manual information, design specifications, and engineering technical recommendations.
Assists ships force with obtaining supply and repair parts information as required.
Performs the necessary out briefs to ship's force representatives including ship's officers and supporting personnel as well as briefs to customer management.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum 4 years’ experience repairing, upgrading and performing condition assessments, performing diagnostic inspections and fault isolation on a variety Navy shipboard electrical systems; including but not limited to ship power distribution systems, equipment control systems, electrical operators, indicating and order systems, lighting distribution systems, motors, controllers and generator
Ability to read, interpret, and follow detailed written instructions, or drawings and to conduct activities in a safe manner
Ability to make decisions using sound judgment while complying with policies, procedure appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified NAVSEA Cableway Inspector
Associates in technical degree or military experience preferred
Performed related work in a senior enlisted or commissioned officer active duty position
ADA Notations:
Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional noise
Ability to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways, and up and down antenna masts/yardarms (onboard ships)
Ability to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs. in weight
Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
Ability to wear face covering while working
Office, warehouse, laboratory, pier side, shipboard
Noise conditions range from very quiet to loud noise
