Against that backdrop, we are seeking an experienced and highly-motivated leader to join our team in the role of Director, Software Engineering & Delivery Transformation. In this role, you will apply your process improvement and data analytics expertise in a software engineering context to transform the way Humana teams build and deliver applications which support Humana's business needs. This Director analyzes data from multiple sources and uses Value Stream Mapping, Lean and Six Sigma methods to define insights which drive automation and process optimization. You will also use your skills to enable engineering teams by working work closely with peer leaders in the organization who build and mature DevOps and Feedback Loops platforms and tools to modernize and streamline the software delivery supply chain for Humana. Most importantly, you will set objectives and define key results (OKRs) for software delivery at Humana and will report progress to leaders at multiple levels of the organization on a regular cadence.
You will lead an organization of 35-40 individuals, with four direct reports. This position can be located anywhere within the lower 48 states. For candidates living outside of Louisville, KY, a minimal amount of travel should be expected during the year.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Lead a data science team which proposes actionable insights which will mature the software engineering and systems development lifecycle practices at Humana.
Diagram and evaluate existing software engineering and technology delivery processes using Value Stream Mapping and flow metrics.
Collect data to determine root cause of process problems and prioritize risk within a process using Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) and other Six Sigma methods.
Own and stewards Humana's Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC), with focus on governing new requirements which may degrade the delivery process and impact the engineering experience.
Mature the existing Systems Development Life Cycle and DORA (DevOps Research Assessment) metrics such as Lead Time, Cycle Time, Deployment Frequency, Development Predictability, and Productivity using exhaust from software engineering and agile processes.
Broaden the adoption of Feature Management / Feature Flagging capability within Humana technology and business teams.
Coach software engineering teams to use new ways of working, new tools, and new practices to maximize their ability to deliver value to Humana's business.
Set objectives and define key results (OKRs) for software delivery at Humana and report progress to leaders at multiple levels of the organization on a regular cadence.
Measure performance of software engineering teams against process requirements.
Provide consultation on the use of re-engineering techniques to improve process performance and product quality.
Deliver presentations and training courses including measurement, analysis, improvement and control.
Make decisions on the implementation of new/updated programs or large-scale projects for the function and its supporting technical/operational procedures and processes; implement strategic plans, drive goals and objectives, and improve performance.
Manage, build and lead a high performing team by coaching and developing existing members and closing talent gaps where needed through talent acquisition.
Key Candidate Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of driving process improvement in a software development setting, along with proficiency in DevOps and DevSecOps concepts. He/she will also be a successful team leader, with a proven record of success in elevating the performance and capabilities of their team. Professional certifications, including Lean or Six Sigma (Black Belt or Green Belt) and PMP will be key to success in this role. Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
In addition to the above, the following professional qualifications and personal attributes are also sought:
Experience with data analytics (with a focus on Google Cloud Platform or Microsoft Azure), and the ability to lead teams to derive actionable insights from data
Strong business and financial acumen
Proficiency in business consulting and/or operational leadership experience
Experience in multiple corporate sourcing categories
Comprehensive knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Project and Visio
Current or recent experience in a large, highly matrixed company (i.e., Fortune 250), with proven ability to collaborate with and influence leaders and key stakeholders to adopt new ways of working
Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the polish, poise, and executive presence that will ensure effective interaction with senior and executive level audiences
Ability to interact with and defend position with senior management using data
A record of success in attracting, developing, and motivating top talent from inside and outside of the organization, and preparing direct reports for expanded responsibilities
Experience in Healthcare, with an understanding of Payer and Provider markets, would be useful, but not required
SAFe and Cloud certification
Organizational Change Enablement (OCE) or Organizational Change Management (OCM) experience
Master's degree or other graduate degree will be a plus
