Description
Responsibilities
The Lead Software Engineer works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial. The Lead Software Engineer standardizes the quality assurance procedure for software. Oversees testing and debugging and develops fixes. Researches complaints and makes necessary adjustments and/or recommendations to resolve complex software related issues. Advises executives to develop functional strategies (often segment specific) on matters of significance. Exercises independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, and works under minimal supervision. Uses independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determining the best course of action.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Planning, Analysis and Design
Understand business purpose of software solution requests
Contribute to major feature planning
Contribute to process of estimating costs for proposed solutions
Contribute to analysis of how to best meet purpose and features resulting in logical requirements documentation (can include build, buy or hybrid solutions)
Design solutions to meet objectives (data structures, system processes, services, user interfaces, etc.)
Lead, Mentor and guide team members in the completion of their assignments
Work with architecture team to explore new tools, techniques, etc. to improve solution delivery
Development, Integration, Testing and Implementation
Write, update and maintain in-house engineered software solutions utilizing Humana Military approved tools
Write, update and maintain software to integrate purchase software solutions utilizing Humana Military approved tools
Configure purchased software to meet business and IT requirements
Mentor junior team members and guide their software engineering tasks
Prepare comprehensive test cases for functional and regression testing plans
Assist testing teams with automating test cases
Assist end users with UAT as needed
Prepare detailed deployment plans to include rollback
Contribute to system disaster recovery planning, documentation and execution
Prepare system documentation as directed
Provide on call support as scheduled
Required Qualifications
Our Department of Defense contract requires U.S. Citizenship
Successfully receive interim approval for government security clearance (eQIP - Electronic Questionnaire for Investigation Processing)
Bachelor's degree (technical area desired), or equivalent technical training
8 years of Information Technology experience working with mainframe applications and development
Experience with ZOS COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, and SDF II
Project management experience
Good written and verbal communication skills
Experience with Microsoft Office tools
Experience leading and working well in a team development setting
Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree
Healthcare experience
Work at Home/Remote Requirements
Must ensure designated work area is free from distractions during work hours and virtual meetings
Must provide a high-speed DSL or cable modem for a workspace (Satellite and Hotspots are prohibited). A minimum standard speed of 10x1 (10mbs download x 1mbs upload) for optimal performance of is required
