We are looking for an exceptional agilest to be a Senior Scrum Master within Global Retail Markets US Technology, Data and Analytics Engineering. In this role you will support Agile and Portfolio Management within Data and Analytics Engineering. The hiring manager is looking for a Senior Scrum Master.
Job Summary:
As a Senior Scrum Master, you will work collaboratively with all the geographically diverse agile delivery teams within the entire organization. This is a fast-paced environment providing rapid delivery of agile/scrum practices, driving agile to enhance value add services for our customers. In this role you will work on a highly collaborative team that values speed and quality, with a strong desire to drive change and foster a positive work environment. Your work will include actively leading agile ceremonies, coaching team members, proactively eliminating barriers, and enabling team delivery. Perhaps most importantly, you will use your servant leadership capabilities and mindset to help empower, energize and motivate the teams you support. You will work closely with your team and peers to support sprint and release planning, foster team self-awareness, encourage cross-training, decision-making and continuous improvement.
This is a range posting and job level will be determined based on experience.
In this role you will:
Enablement and maturity growth of organizational agility of all the teams in their aligned program/portfolio.
Demonstrates situational and self-awareness to know whether/when/how to respond to various environmental issues that will affect a team/program/portfolio/organization's ability to operate in a Lean-Agile manner.
Responsible for the professional/knowledge growth of less experienced Scrum Masters and contributing to the overall agility subject matter expertise in the organization.
Joins forces with other Sr. Scrum Masters and Agile Coaches working together to help the organization mature on the path towards business agility.
Draws from vast experience in a variety of different contexts and leverages ideas from several disciplines, patterns and techniques to address gaps, solve problems, innovate and improve the environment their program/portfolio operates in.
Leads, facilitates, and optimizes at program/train and portfolio level, with understanding of broader organizational goals. May fulfill RTE role with an organization that is adopting SAFe and/or multi-team coaching support aligned to a portfolio or organization agile maturity. Helps facilitate and champion impediment removal at the organization/tool level.
Kaizen/relentless improvement.
Runs and facilitates retrospectives at the leadership level, has direct impacts and demonstratable improvements at the teams of teams/ train level to operational efficiency, KPIs, Feedback, team morale, etc.
Proactively share best practices amongst Scrum Masters. Helps to mature the organization in agile discipline, potentially scale (or mature in scaling), and dependency management.
Ensures proper transparency and visibility into dependencies and risks.
Expected to either already have or be able to quickly develop strong, healthy, and productive relationships with key Agile roles to drive strategic alignment.
Easily switches between coaching and mentoring stances as needed for the situation. Typically focuses on teams of teams for large scale mentorship and coaching.
Assesses and progresses Agile maturity at the team of teams level and influence teams of teams working together in an agile environment by coaching and mentoring other SMs, managers, and POs. Actively seeks coaching from more experienced SMs and coaches.
Extensive experience facilitating events, meetings, and discussions in a variety of different contexts (different cultures, remote, in person, different domains, different levels of the org., etc.)
Typically facilitates large scale planning sessions, quarterly sessions, etc. Comfortable remaining neutral, applying effective conflict management, and establishing trust.
Master at having difficult conversations.
Actively coaches others on improving facilitation skills.
Acts as an advisor to others in growing their lean-agile teaching skills.
Demonstrates intentional selection and flow of topics and activities to achieve training goals & learning objectives. Focuses on gaining more knowledge and experiences in adult learning to grow their teaching skills to enhance the learning experience of others and achieve learning outcomes.
Develops and delivers training on a variety of Lean-Agile frameworks/scaling methods using information from multiple sources. Emphasis shifts to cultivating and supporting a learning organization.
Serves as the Lean-Agile champion and change agent to their aligned program or value stream. Taps into strengths and influence of change agents to have a bigger impact or ensure stickiness of change.
Advanced understanding of more than one method or framework due to extensive experience applying a wide variety of industry recognized patterns and techniques and advanced study.
Guides the transition to and implementation of a scaling framework (SAFe or other) for teams of teams to optimize value delivery in a single program or stream.
Pinpoints opportunities when engineering practices can benefit a program's ability to deliver high quality value; also seeks out XP (or other) mentors/champions to increase awareness and understanding of practices by whole team.
Surfaces and works with key stakeholders to address anti-patterns that impede organizational agility.
Looks for themes across multiple teams; draws out deeper insights through advanced facilitation techniques. Keen situational awareness and richer instincts in determining what Agile techniques would work in a given situation.
Coaches peer level Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Managers, and Senior Leaders on the agile mindset and behavior with an emphasis on collaborating with teams and enabling organizational agility. Mentors others on Servant Leadership. Consistently guided by and exhibits Lean-Agile principles. Uses inspect and adapt techniques (Kaizen, PDCA, Kata, Experiments, etc.) to help teams/programs relentlessly improve; consistently uses proven tools and measurements to educate and motivate team to increase performance. Creates and contributes to Agile communities (cohorts, circles, etc.) to support continuous learning & foster a Lean-Agile mindset at Liberty Mutual. Observes and identifies behavioral goals for team/coachee, formulates hypothesis for behavior/situations being observed, and helps coachee identify approach to accomplish the goal.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (business, computer science, humanities, etc.)
At least 6 years of IT and program management and experience working in an Agile team, including coaching on Lean-Agile approaches.
Minimum of 8 years in a leadership position, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
At least one advanced training/certification completed from a reputable Lean/agile organization (SPS, SAFe SPC, SAFe SM, ICAgile Professional Agile Team Facilitation (ICP-ATF), ICAgile Professional Agile Coaching (ICP-ACC)).
Requires excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and team building skills, and business judgement.
In-depth knowledge of business functions and extensive understanding of business operations, strategies and objectives. Ability to effectively apply scaling frameworks and methodologies.
Working knowledge of IT concepts, strategies, methodologies, architectures, and technical standards.
