Purpose and Accountabilities:
Reporting to the Site Operation manager, The Automation Engineer responsibility to ensure that the health and safety of personnel, the environment, and the integrity/reliability of the Shell Technology Centre Bangalore (STCB) equipment and systems are preserved, always in accordance with Code, Statutory Law & Company Policy.
The Automation Engineer provides daily stewardship for the co-ordination, scheduling, execution and communications of all inspection and project activities within the STCB Site. Success is measured as achieving and sustaining and maintaining high equipment availability and reliability. This person is also the responsible for day to day engineering & maintenance support of assets (both balance of plant and user group units) at STCB.
He will provide the support in progressing the various projects by providing process automation and control (PACO) technical expert advice to the project undertaken by site operations project execution team. The Engineer is required to regularly work to oversee the engineering works being carried and ensure an on-time delivery of a smart, fit-for-purpose and cost-effective solution for the control & automation systems in the respective project scopes.
The Instrument Engineer should promote a corporate culture of openness and enterprise first behaviour
The preparation, scheduling, co-ordination and execution of all Instruments Maintenance activities in balance of plant (Distributed control system, Programmable logic controls, Exhaust system, Gas distribution system, Vent gas burner, Thermic fluid heater, Nitrogen and Hydrogen compressor, Hydrogen Generator and General Lab Support Services) etc.,
To ensure ongoing development, training & competence of the Instrumentation team.
To ensure the continuous review, update and improvement of STCB Planned maintenance through application of the relevant OE one AMS Principles, Risk & Reliability Management (RRM) tools.
To implement and manage relevant Annual Maintenance Contracts.Responsible to regularly work to oversee the engineering works being carried and ensure an on-time delivery of a smart, fit-for-purpose and cost-effective solution for the control & automation systems in the respective project scopes.
Ensure that plant specific Maintenance procedures are maintained to reflect current as-built status, best practice and are in compliance with Shell Codes of Practice and Operating Standards. Development of new procedures to consider changes in plant, organisation and standards.
Responsible for management of change for instrumentation discipline.To review and manage the expenditure on a monthly basis and to account for any variance from budget.
Carry out any incident investigations assigned in Fountain/Care Tool/ Interventions/SWAT Observations/ any internal and External audit findings promptly and complete all actions assigned within the agreed time frame.
As required, contribute to preliminary review of all new plant/equipment prior to final completion and handover and acceptance from Engineering.
To ensure all the shutdown activity are planned and executed.As a member of the Site Emergency Response Team, train and attend site as the Site Main Controller for chemical and gas incidents and Coordinate the response to Emergency situations.
It is an expectation that the person who obtains this position should work towards TA 3 status.
Responsible for delivering the following Front End and Detailed Design packages with contractor for the discipline
To ensure design and construction package including specification and detailed design of control and system, field instrumentation, and analysers.
Responsible to ensure commissioning & integration of new units on site in line with site philosophy
To ensure safeguarding design and construction package including specification and detail design of Alarm Management, Instrumented Protection System (IPF) and Fire & Gas (F&G) Detection System
To manage multiple stakeholders, Business Groups, Site Maintenance Team, Site Project team & Real estate team.

Automation Engineer must have a minimum 10 years of relevant discipline engineering experience in the areas like Process Automation Systems Engineering including Distributed Control Systems (DCS) preferred Emerson DeltaV System and CHARMS, Honeywell, Yokogawa and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) preferably Siemens PLC, Safeguarding systems including Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Fire and Gas (F&G), Process Automation Systems Integrity including PCD IT security, architecture, and data historians, he should also have sound knowledge in field and smart instrumentation (including flow metering, control Valves) etc., Quality Measurement Instruments (QMI)/Analyzers, Alarm Management and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI),
He should be experienced in execution phases of medium / large projects in Brownfield environment, deep working knowledge in external technical standards and knowledge of PACO Shell DEPs, Proven track record in leading small teams and delivering through others, Proven commercial mindset; demonstrable attributes that support delivering value that comes from applying technical expertise and experience to deliver engineering solutions that delivers best value. Author plant changes (MOC) within the process control and Instrumentation discipline and provide Technical Assurance of plant changes by other disciplines and departments, Conduct or lead failure analysis and causal investigation of instrumentation and control failures or incidents. Develop solutions to prevent future occurrence. Collaborate with Systems and Instrumentation specialists in developing and implementing obsolescence strategies for equipment in the assigned production areas. conduct instrument appraisals for different lab Equipment’s as per the schedule, strong internal and external stakeholder management
