Job Summary:
Description:
Act as instrument engineering lead on medium, large, and complex/critical size Oil & Gas projects (comprised of specialist oil, gas, water and solids processing equipment packages and facilities. These packages vary in size and complexity from single train vessels to multi deck 2000t modules for both onshore and offshore facilities) taking full ownership of all engineering activities within the instrumentation scope.
Will work closely with the Project Engineer, Other Engineering Disciplines, Procurement Lead, and other project services to execute the project in accordance with the as sold requirement and Client expectations with respect to instrumentation.
Lead activities and technical discussions around instrumentation
Fully responsible for all engineering and technical aspects of an assigned proposal or project as it relates to instrumentation
Specify instrumentation and valves required to operate “oil field” process equipment per client specifications, industry standards and guidelines.
Take a lead role directing the activities of other team members as it relates to Instrumentation
The individual will be responsible for interfacing directly with the local engineering team as well as the regional offices to ensure compliance with project requirements
The job requires professional knowledge gained through substantial applicable work experience to supplement formal knowledge to apply engineering principles and concepts in resolving issues as they arrive
Roles and Responsibilities:
Demonstrate command of extensive range of technical skills and principles within the field of instrumentation
Apply and consolidate specialists’ skills and knowledge and ensure essential procedures are followed.
Facilitates in defining the standards and specifications around which others will operate.
Assist in developing and coaching younger engineers in the team.
Evaluate customer specifications to determine the best design for the application.
Review customer specifications to match specifications or clearly define differences (clarifications or exceptions list).
Provide cost estimates for instrumentation, valves, specialty items, spare parts, field instrument and hookup for proposals within the scope of supply and client specifications. Provide man hours estimate to complete instrument (and electrical) for I&E department for each project.
Review P&IDs to confirm correct instrumentation symbol and control scheme, confirm sizes for control valve, relief valve, flow element and mounting nozzles for instrumentation. Train team members to review P&ID’s.
Assist in developing P&IDs to ensure compliance with client specifications, and/or Schlumberger standard piping specifications.
Recommend, specify, and prepare requisition for inquiry and purchase of instrumentation and actuated valves.
Perform control valve sizing, relief valve sizing, flow element sizing.
Recommend control valve, shutdown valve, Level, Pressure, Temperature, and Flow instruments best suited for application.
Participate in client or internal HAZOP.
Prepare project commissioning and operation spare parts lists as it relates to Instrumentation.
Provide installation instructions and dimensional drawings during vessel/piping design, and fabrication phases.
Assist in providing hookup details to I&E contractor for installation of instrumentations.
Review and approve subcontractor field instrument and electrical hookup scope, and ensure scope meets client specifications or Schlumberger standard.
Coordinate with product team to review subcontractor control system design, and ensure scope meets client specifications or Schlumberger standard.
Review vendor drawings, hookup, calculation, and other technical documentation related to instrumentations.
Perform final inspection for instrumentation and valves.
Participate in Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for Schlumberger equipment.
Perform Peer Reviews of team design work.
Provide technical support for trouble shooting.
Provide assistance with onsite start-up and / or troubleshooting.

Minimum Job Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent with 10-15 years’ experience within Oil and Gas Industry. Preferably Electrical Engineer (Chemical Engineer or Mechanical Engineer is okay).
In depth knowledge of national and international codes and standards for instrument and electrical, valves testing and construction, inspection and NDE requirements, and field installation and start-up procedures.
Expert in control valve, relief valve, flow elements sizing, selection, and applications.
Expert in all level instrumentation types and their applications.
Expert in all valve types and their limitations.
Hands on experience with field start-up, calibration and troubleshooting experience of instrumentation.
Communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals outside the Company.
Experience in having participated of HAZOP and other safety studies.
Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship.

Ability to modify established guidelines and initiation of new approaches.

Ability to review P&IDs for complex process equipment.
Ability to size control valves, relief valves, and flow measurement devices.
Excellent knowledge of all materials of construction and their application.
Working knowledge of ASME Section VIII, Division 1 and ASME B31.3.
Working knowledge of NACE MR-01-75 (2003) / ISO-15156 guidelines.
Excellent knowledge of ISA guidelines and symbols for instrumentation.
Working knowledge of API and ANSI guidelines.
Ability to offer alternate instrument or valve type from perspectives of cost, space, schedule, operation, and maintenance.
Ability to lead other employees.
Ability to work cooperatively with various company departments associated with designing, estimating, fabricating, operating, and selling this equipment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, organized and confident.
Ability to utilize Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and engineering design programs.
