Technical Services Manager – Africa Projects

Glencore Copper is seeking a Technical Services Manager to support our DRC projects to be based in South Africa.

We are one of the world’s largest producers and marketers of copper with our mining operations and development projects in key mining regions of Africa, Australia and the Americas.
The Opportunity
The role is accountable to lead the Africa Projects team by setting clear direction and priorities to reduce risk and enable business decisions with strategic projects for the African assets.
You will be responsible for a wide range of tasks including:
Lead the African project team in the planning execution and documentation of technical studies to support their successful completion through the various project stage gates.
Align the studies with the Glencore Capital Management Framework standards and guidelines.
Apply appropriate governance, change control, documentation and security controls are set, administered and audited.
Define project responsibilities with key stakeholders and maintain management, execution and communication plans.
Lead the technical team members to acquire the data to make process and project decisions.
Manage consultants to meet requirements that comply with the Capital Management Framework and Copper group standards and guidelines.
Provide updates and escalate issues to ensure projects are maintained on track for budget, schedule and scope.
Develop relationships with African sites to ensure the project is interfaced appropriately.
You will have the following skills and attributes:
15 years of experience in a similar role in the resources/industrial industry involved in project delivery.
Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline.
Experience with economic evaluation of complex projects.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong leadership and relationship building skills both including internal and external stakeholders.
Self-motivate, highly pro-active and resilient attitude.
Significant experience in communicating technical information and findings to senior personnel, including non-technical audiences.
Prior experience working within diverse teams.
English language skills required however bilingual (French, Spanish) would be considered beneficial
Ability to travel to Glencore operations in Africa on extensive basis.
