Position Summary

This is a key leadership position that will lead three key functions for engineering: Architecture, Identity Management, Backend Services, and Integration framework (e.g., Kafka). This role is a crucial driver creating best practices for software architecture initiatives across Engineering. This role requires a strategic thinker who can drive innovation and keep Under Armour’s technology current with market trend. Role will create prototypes, validate tradeoffs for design decisions and support day to day development needs as well as support needs (from architecture perspective). This role is enabler for defining arch patterns which will be shared across Engineering (across towers). The role will lead development of our common backend services which will be used across Engineering and Global omni. Example is Identity management.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities


Spearhead software architecture initiatives to accelerate Under Armour’s digital growth. These initiatives include strategic investments in key areas (e.g. cloud, Metaverse, Automation) as well creating best practices to increase developers productivity to increase agility.
Oversee key architecture decisions to ensure solutions Engineering teams are building are scalable, reliable and supportable.
Build and execute roadmap for engineering technology and support roadmap for Business initiatives.
Ensures continuous alignment of project investments and initiatives with business strategy based on changing functional needs, resource capacity constraints, risk exposure, and interdependencies
Ensures strong partnership with other global technology teams including PMO, Infrastructure, Cyber Security, Software Engineering and QA, as well as other service delivery teams.
Defines roles of stakeholders and manages interdependencies; identifies at-risk initiatives and drives cross-functional collaboration to negotiate resolution to issues.
Defines organization structure required to develop and support software architecture function.
Leads the creation of an infrastructure workforce strategy, including the analysis of trends and business strategy to forecast critical skills, emerging skills and resource gaps
Grows and scales the team by recruiting world-class talent.
Fosters digital dexterity in the team by facilitating training, networking and upskilling opportunities
Manages a globally distributed team of internal teammates and external vendors.
Contributes to company-level goals for talent development, retention, diversity, and inclusion.
Develops the next generation of technology leaders who are able to build strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to move the business towards digitally enabled growth.
Build and maintain identity management tool which is a backbone of all engineering products (ecommerce, MapMy, Marketing, POS, etc).
Collaborate with external vendors to ensure solution meets all UA security standards and protect customers and teammates data privacy
Collaborate closely with cyber-security team to ensure solution evolves continuously to address new security threats on Under Armour systems
Integrate with other Under Armour system (Loyalty, eCommerce, Marketing, etc) , to integrate seamless data movement to provide best experience to Under Armour customers and teammates
Build a team to deliver common backend services to support cross functional teams. This include but not limited to our events framework (Kafka) which will be backbone of producer subscriber architecture
Optimize IT governance, priorities and decision-making processes as the business context and technology landscape changes in partnership with stakeholders


Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)


Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts in business terms for functional leadership including VP .
Proven negotiation and influencing skills.
Knowledge of ITIL Service Operations concepts.
Ability to highlight / identify gaps in existing functionality and frame this problem in Technology terms.
Excellent problem-solving skills – able to identify, analyze and propose solutions to various consumer, technical and business issues.
Proven leadership skills, including the ability to manage direct reports and matrixed teammates
Excellent presentation and communication skills, able to convey progress, risks and opportunities across the enterprise including the C-Suite and BOD
Experience leading large, global, cross functional projects.
Proven experience with complex distributed systems architecture
Proven track record of delivering results to drive business growth


Education And / Or Experience


Bachelor’s Degree in Information System Management, Computer Science, or a relevant business area preferred, but relevant professional experience will be considered. Master’s in Business Administration or Computer Science degree a plus
Min 10 years of technology leadership experience, including experience managing relationships with internal business customers.
7 Years of experience in system design, architecture and build large scale distributed systems
3 years experience acting as a manager, team lead, project lead, or some other position of leadership and responsibility greater than individual performer is preferred
