SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of this position is to eliminate or reduce human and food safety work hazards to acceptable levels by identifying and remedying potential problems before they occur during the early design of systems and equipment. This position will develop and apply human and food safety mitigation procedures and specifications that are typically inherent in manufacturing, but more specifically to include hazards that result from mechanical failure, environmental effects, and operator error. Frequent on-site vendor reviews focusing on code and specification adherence, ergonomic design, guarding, controls, and sanitary design during project development, fabrication, and factory acceptance tests are a key function of this role. This position will also determine what undesirable events can occur in and around the manufacturing process and make recommendations to lower the accident or failure risk through application of engineering principles, industry accepted standards, and health and safety laws. Further responsibilities include: Set and document standards for design, materials of construction, methods of construction, etc., for processing equipment and process layouts; training other personnel on methods of identifying and mitigating manufacturing human and food safety hazards; assist in the development and design of process layouts; assist in the development of a project scope of work; design of equipment utilizing industry accepted 3D CAD software; analyze machine and system failure points by applying FMEA or similar diagnostic procedures; coordination between other internal company safety related shared resources to include EH&S, FSQA, R &D, Information Systems, Controls and Automation, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Discipline Engineers, and plant based support; Ability to communicate and report out to Managers, VPs, SVPs, and the Prepared Foods Leadership Team on an as needed basis; other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: B.S. in a technical field, engineering preferred or equivalent experience.
Experience: cumulative work experience at a minimum of at least three to five years in engineering, food processing, construction, or other technical fields
Computer Skills: Microsoft Office; AutoCAD and/or Revit drafting software; Failure simulation and analysis software knowledge is a plus.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are mandatory.
Special Skills: Process knowledge in food manufacturing and the ability to work in an unsupervised environment answering to multiple internal customers at all levels.
Certifications: Any professional safety certifications are a plus.
Travel: 50% plus
