Boeing plans to hire over 500 engineers for its Oklahoma plant, EngineeringCrossing finds 67,000 jobs.

The company announced in August that it was relocating its C-130 Avionics Modernization and B-1 programs to Oklahoma. The C-130 program will be shifted in the first quarter of 2011 and the B-1 program towards the end of 2012.
The company has announced that engineers and other hi-tech workers from its Long Beach, California plant would be given the option of shifting to Oklahoma. But it still intends to hire locally for most of the jobs. The jobs being offered pay on average $130,000 per year.
Boeing at present has around 1,000 employees in Oklahoma, out of which around 450 are in Oklahoma City. One of the main reasons the company is moving manufacturing to Oklahoma is the state's low cost of living. The jobs that are going to be created will mainly be in engineering.
CEO A. Harrison Barnes of EngineeringCrossing sees this as an example of the upswing in engineering jobs. ''When Boeing relocates a plant or starts a new one, its not just jobs at the Boeing plant. Its suppliers will move to the new place too, creating even more engineering jobs.'' Barnes' firm has been able to compile a list of over 67,000 engineering jobs available throughout the country this month.
