About the Office of Legislative Services
The Office of Legislative Services (OLS) is an agency of the New Jersey Legislature established by law to provide professional, nonpartisan staff support services to the Legislature including its officers, members, committees and commissions. The OLS operates under the authority of the Legislative Services Commission, a 16-member bipartisan panel with equal representation from each house of the Legislature.
The goal of the OLS is to facilitate the work of the New Jersey Legislature and to enable and promote public understanding of the legislative process. As nonpartisan employees of the Legislature, OLS staff are prohibited from engaging in political activity or taking a public position with regard to any matter before the Legislature.
Description
Position performs work designing network topology and access layers to build secure routable IP networks to support phone, PCs and peripherals, as well as designing the installation, removal, repair, modification and alignment of the network systems and related equipment at the Capitol Complex, legislative district offices, legislative commission offices and other legislative locations throughout the state.
The Network Engineer 1 ensures the integrity, quality and continuous operation of the network by performing quarterly audits, including providing a written report detailing audit findings, recommended corrective actions and supporting documentation; reviews design documents and building plans for network systems infrastructure; prepares project documentation and oversees components of multiphase, complex OLS-wide projects; analyzes network systems and services; measures user satisfaction through studies and assessment activities, and recommends improvements or adjustments.
Requirements
Education*:
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, programming, systems administration, database/ network management, or related degree from an accredited college or university.
Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE: Core Infrastructure)
Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE: Core Productivity)
Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE: Data Management and Analytics)
Preferred Education:
Master's degree in information technology, programming, systems administration, database/network management, or related degree from an accredited college or university.
Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Certification
Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA: Windows 10)
Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA: Office 365)
Other Windows Server Certifications

and Association of International Credential Evaluators Inc.

Experience:
Seven years of experience designing network topology and access layers to build secure routable IP networks to support phone, PCs and peripherals.
Seven years of experience in monitoring general system performance, server virtualization, cloud management, application performance monitoring (APM), network management, server resources utilization for applications and capacity planning.
Preferred Experience:
Seven years of experience with Windows, LAN, wireless and network platforms.
Experience in storage infrastructure/SAN planning and implementation.
Experience with implementing and supporting virtual server infrastructure.
Experience with ADFS.
Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.
Project coordinator experience.
Substitution:
Applicants who do not have a bachelor’s degree may substitute additional certifications or experience on a year-for-year basis, and must have a minimum of 11 years of experience.
Applicants who do not have the required certification(s) may substitute certifications that are determined to be equivalent in content and the time required to obtain.
Driver’s License:
Possession of a valid New Jersey driver’s license is required, as the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties of this position.
Lifting Requirement:
Ability to move items weighing up to 50 pounds in a safe and effective manner is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
